Pecha Kucha Night @ Natasha’s Cafe – 9/5/2009

The following photographs were taken on September 5th, 2009 at Natasha’s Cafe in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.  This was the first real event for my new Canon T1i and I set out to shoot the entire night without a flash to avoid the typical “event photo” look.  Fortunately,  the Pecha Kucha Lexington leader, Kent Lewis, was more than happy to allow it. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the way it turned out.

The event, Pecha Kucha, is derived from a Japanese form of presentation in which the presenter gets 20 slides (no more, no less) and a mandated 20 seconds to discuss each slide. In a very obvious Japanese way, if the presenter gets behind or goes too fast, the potential exists for embarrassment but the true point of the exercise is to avoid boring, long-winded presentations. The results? This style of presenting should be mandatory. Take a moment to check out the national Pecha Kucha site and then check out the local Lexington Pecha Kucha site and come down to the next event.
